Welcome to a personal journey through the creative world of LoveSickStudio. In this article, I'll talk about how LoveSickStudio came to be and how I started remaking album covers out of LEGO. This will likely be one of the few articles I choose to write in a first person, biographical style and will hopefully give you a better idea of who I am.
2020: The Creation of LoveSickStudio
It all started on June 1, 2020, right in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns in the UK. I was working as an architectural visualiser at the time, and I found myself on furlough due to a slowdown in building projects. To keep my creative flame alive, I decided to challenge myself: create a piece of art every single day. I’ve since deleted the posts, but I kept this up for six months until December 30th 2020, resulting in a small but humble 800 followers.
My First LEGO Album Cover Remake
During the daily art-making phase in 2020, I stumbled upon Mecabricks, an online software for creating LEGO models. This discovery sparked an idea: remaking album covers using LEGO. The first project was the recently released posthumous Juice WRLD album "Legends Never Die." It satisfied everything I wanted from my everyday art project: a clear goal that gives me a slight struggle but also allows a reasonable amount of freedom.
2021: The Quiet Year
After the intense daily art creation, I took a quieter approach in 2021, posting art every so often when an idea came to me. Behind the scenes, however, plans were brewing. On July 14th, I decided to start remaking famous album covers out of LEGO using Mecabricks. I started with an album I'd been listening to on repeat at the time: Porter Robinson's "Nurture" and kept remaking album covers up until December 2021.
Posting The First LEGO Album Covers
On November 30th 2021 I announced my project via an Instagram post. A short animated loop featuring spinning LEGO heads set the stage for a daily LEGO album cover remake starting on December 1st. Originally intended for a month, the project extended for two years, resulting in over 650 album covers remade using LEGO and I posted the last everyday art piece on November 30th 2023.
2024: Where we go from Here
Fast forward to 2024, and I've decided to bid farewell to the daily posting schedule. The demanding routine limited my ability to tackle larger, more intricate album covers and took up a lot of personal time. I’m no where near done, there’s still lots of album covers I want to remake and other projects I want to create. I’m now posting with no schedule, creating art when inspiration hits. I’ll continue creating and posting LEGO remakes on Instagram and I hope you can join for the journey.
